The LER team had a great visit to the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations (CAFN) in the beautiful Yukon territory. We had community, staff and Chief and Council meetings in Whitehorse, Haines Junction and Takhini. We had the pleasure of working with a Facilitation team from Turtle Island. The staff of the CAFN were as dynamic and hard working as always.

We also had the pleasure of visiting Kwaday DanKenji (long ago…people’s place) with Harold Johnson, the creator of the wonderful site and a member of the Chief and Council of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations.

The four totem poles in front of Lu’ma Native Housing Society’s latest project on Nanaimo Street mark what the building’s proponents have long visualized as a long-term home for aboriginal children in care.
The totem poles, carved by Nisga’a artist Mike Dangeli, were officially unveiled today (October 25) during a ceremony at the development near South Grandview Highway. The facility consists of 24 new units intended to house aboriginal foster families, youth transitioning out of care, and low-income families.

Visit to Moose Factory in June:

We spent three days in beautiful Moose Factory and held information meetings in the community for the possible development of a Housing Authority. The vote to decide if a Housing Authority will be formed will be held in September.

We met with the Youth in their fabulous Youth Centre and the Elders in their beautiful Elders Centre as well as the Members in the EPR building.

This work is being funded by the First Nations Market Housing Fund.
